The 2015-16 season has been a season to remember for the Philadelphia Junior Flyers of the Metropolitan Junior Hockey League. They have finished the regular season at the top of the league with a 36-4 record.
As they head into the playoffs, head coach Jason Kilcoyne explained that the team is only focused on the Central Penn Panthers right now, who they face in the first round of the MJHL playoffs.

“Central Penn is a very physical team, and every team in the playoffs is a good team,” said Kilcoyne, “so we cannot look past them.”
Depth is a necessity for a hockey team that has hopes of winning a championship and for the Junior Flyers, depth has been a strong point. The team is comprised of four strong lines, three solid lines of defense, and two goalies who have played well all year. Each player has been key to this team’s success.
The Flyers also possess a lot of youth. The team is made up of twelve ’98’s, as well as one ’99.
They do not have any college commitments yet, but many players on the team have shown phenomenal potential.
Tyler Glennon (’98) has led the scoring attack with 24 goals and 37 assists. Teddy Fitzgerald IV (’98) is right behind him with 20 goals and 40 assists.
Kilcoyne praised his team’s competitiveness to win games night in and night out, but he also admires the players’ willingness to compete with each other at practice every day.
“The guys love to win and hate to lose. They push each other every day at practice and are great competitors,” Kilcoyne added. “The competition within the team is what has made us a good team.”
As the playoffs approach, Coach Kilcoyne is focusing his players on playing better team defense.
While they have already accomplished so much this season, the ultimate judge of their season’s success will be decided on whether or not they are able to win the championship this month, which looks more and more likely every time they step on the ice.
