Consumer Electronics Show 2020 Recap

The 2020 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) took place from January 7-10, where a variety of companies and innovators gathered to display their products, exploring trends across multiple industries of technology. The tech world is rapidly changing, and the CES gives tremendous insight into the sort of innovation we should expect in the coming years. Here is a recap of everything that we took away from the event, from the coolest products to emerging new trends and brands.



The Coolest Products:

Over 4,500 companies showcased their products at CES 2020, so there were certainly many to choose from. Here are a few that caught our attention:


Alienware Concept UFO: A new gaming PC that is comparable to a Nintendo Switch, only for PC games. PC games were hot in the ’90s and early 2000s and could make a resurgence with this easily transportable gaming console.

Tombot Jennie: This Robotic Dog certainly grabbed people’s attention, as it is meant to be a soothing companion. The robot has all the loveable elements of a real-life dog, without the stressful amount of care and responsibility that a Canine often comes with.


L’Oreal Perso: This original makeup and skincare mixer allows users the opportunity to be creative and make their own custom formulas for lipstick and skincare products. L’Oreal is an A.I powered device. providing a personalized system of skincare that has never been seen before.


New Trends: With the multitude of products that were showcased at CES 2020, different trends were noticed as well. Here are some of those trends that were present and could make a big difference in the coming years:


Artificial Intelligence: AI is seemingly everywhere in today’s society, but its continued development will play a major role in making consumer’s lives easier. Many new personal devices use AI, but also products related to home life and other industries.


Streaming: Streaming continues to dominate how we consume content. Consumer spending on streaming services is expected to reach more than $20 billion by 2023, up from $16.7 billion in 2020, based on CTA research. There is an abundance of new streaming platforms on the rise, as companies such as Youtube, Spotify, and many more have continued to surge in their respective categories.


Sustainability: This is a trend being followed across a plethora of different industries, and tech is not excluded. Protecting our earth is something that takes a whole group effort, and different companies such as John Deere and Impossible Foods made it a priority to address the issue at this event.


Emerging Brands: There is so much opportunity in the world of technology and innovation, and CES 2020 definitely captured this notion. Here are some of the brands and inventions that have made a splash and should continue to do so in the future.


Smart Home: Smart Home is emerging as a leader in the home-tech category. Wi-Fi cameras, smart locks and doorbells, and much more are why the company is expected to do $4.5 billion in revenue in 2020.


Wireless Earbuds: It seems as though everyone around you has them, and this is only going to become more common. More than half of headphones are expected to be wireless in 2020, the first year that this is a reality. Apple and Bose have set the bar high, as more music-tech brands will likely follow this trend.


BenjiLock: BenjiLock is the world's first traditional rechargeable padlock with fingerprint technology, aiming to redefine personal security. The startup received funding from Shark Tank while also securing distribution and manufacturing partnerships with some of the biggest names in the industry. The company is constantly innovating and finding ways to advance its technology.


Biggest Events/Announcements: The world’s largest tech event obviously had some pretty important announcements that will impact the future of the industry. Going back to the topic of home security, Arlo announced they will be launching another addition to its portfolio of home security devices with the Arlo Pro 3 Floodlight. This device will include two-way audio, night vision, etc. Next, an intriguing collab was announced between Tile and HP. This will provide Bluetooth tracking of your laptop, helping the high population that is prone to losing things. Another key announcement came from JBL, as they will launch some intriguing new products moving forward. One of their new devices is a Dolby Atmos soundbar, where users can detect the surround sound speakers and place them elsewhere in the room. JBL also updated some of its headphones, one of which provides noise cancellation. One more announcement that has people excited is Samsung’s new Galaxy Chromebook, which should bring premium Chromebooks back into the spotlight. This new product serves dual-purposes, as it can be used as a tablet as well. Some of its fascinating features include a touch-enabled AMOLED display, which offers a 3840×2160 resolution, a peak brightness of 400 nits in HDR mode, and a very high contrast ratio.
